Miiknyland

Miiknyland is a virtual world I have been building over many years — a Northern island that grows slowly and continuously, the way a real place develops over time.

The island has its own landscape — forest, rocks, paths, water — and its own architecture. The museum complex at the heart of Miiknyland now includes several pavilions, built for the permanent collection and for temporary exhibitions. A museum director, Jean Palmer, is being developed as a character who will eventually inhabit and run the space.

Miiknyland is not separate from my painting and sculpture practice. The two inform each other directly — geometric forms from the virtual world appear in the paintings, and the thinking behind the paintings shapes how the island is built. The Platonic solids series currently on the easel began with sketches made in Miiknyland.

The goal is to make Miiknyland navigatable — a space visitors can actually enter and move through. That is the work of the coming years.

Selected renderings are available as limited edition aluminium prints. Contact for inquiries.
