Wallpainters Wall is a large multi-colored abstract painting installation from 2005

Wallpainters Wall painting installation consists of eight elements framed by aluminum strips and leaning against the wall. The parts are painted with acrylic paint in 10 centimeter high stripes. The size of the work is 300 x 1180 cm. The base material of the works is kapa board. The stripes have alternating color areas and openings cut out of the board, which show the background wall of the respective hanging space and also the shadow of the work itself.

I wrote a computer program that randomly suggested the colors and lengthts of the color areas within the range decided by me. I visually mixed the colors of the stripes one by one according to the model image provided by the computer. I painted the color surfaces into flat fields. I think that the work has features of both modern and contemporary art – randomness and plannedness combine in the work

The work’s counterpart is another artwork installation, Cavepainters Cave, completed around the same time, which has been exhibited in the same exhibitions as the Wallpainters Wall

The painting installation Wallpainter’s Wall was exhibited for the first time in an exhibition at Galleria Sculptor in Helsinki in 2005. Later, the artwork was exhibited at Pori Art Museum in the group exhibition Maalauksen Paikka curated by Inka-Maija Iitiä. The work is currently in the collections of the Pori Art Museum
