Landscape paintings from Munkkiniemi is a series of oil and acrylic paintings whose subjects are views of the Munkkiniemi district in western Helsinki. The works of the series were exhibited at the end of 2023 at the Munkkiniemen Taidelainaamo – Art Gallery’s Paintings from Munkkiniemi – exhibition.
Walks around Munkkiniemi
I began planning the exhibition pieces by strolling around the Munkkiniemi area, sketching with a pencil and photographing potential scenic spots. I sought subjects that would be artistically captivating yet also distinctly representative of the Munkkiniemi area. Ultimately, my chosen locations were Laajalahti square, the beginning of Kadetintie near the sports field, the view from Nuottapolku to Laajalahti, and the start of Munkkiniemen Puistotie. I commenced the painting process outdoors and completed the pieces in my studio. For my painting style, I aimed for descriptive yet not overly detailed realism.
