1-8Colors is a sub-set of oil paintings within the Breda painting series that depict modified details from Diego Velázquez’s historical painting Surrender of Breda (Las Lanzas, 1633 – 1635).

Breda 1-100 is an artwork series of paintings and prints that was painted between 2011 and 2103. A large part of the series’ works was exhibited at the Espoo Museum of Modern Art, EMMA in 2013 in the exhibition “another space”. The exhibition was the 85th anniversary exhibition of the Association of Finnish Artists, curated by Arja Ja Aarne Jämsä.
This post shows eight paintings from the series of works that were not included in EMMA’s exhibition – they didn’t quite fit in the hanging of the exhibition space. These works, Breda 81 -88, have thus never been exhibited publicly.

The idea of this subseries, as the name suggests, is that the first work is painted with one color and after that I added one new oil color to each subsequent painting. The appearance of the works is therefore shaped by this very simple system by which I limited the means at my disposal. Otherwise, my painting style varied widely from one work to another
